[heartnoises | I'm so amused by these little cats]
[othernoises |modest mouse!]

Yep, at work. at my job.

...

So, I totally broke my glasses the other day. I also drew a really funny looking picture of an ogre mage on our wet erase hex board in game yesterday. It looked vaguely like this, but way way funnier. (well.. I kinda like my paint version, so god decides). You see, hes an ogre because he has one eye and horns, and a mage because of the cloak, staffything, and - attention - a hat. Without that hat what is he? Is it cold out? Got a bad hip? Nothing. The hat is why. That's why I'm the one doing this. That's why I'm The Artist.

New glasses for me cost 300 dollars. This is a reasonable expense for a responsible young adult, status which I feel unfit to claim. Thats a lot of money. :'( I make a cry-ey face to demonstrate my sad. I picked new frames and all, they're brown like dirt, which happily matches my pinstripe suit, which is now officially broken. The suit coat is broken in ways which makes it unwearable, and despite many claimants ("Bah! Thats be easy to patch up. Hell, I'll do it."), it has never seen so much as a stitch of love. The pants I was walking around my house in, and somehow I managed to tear the back of the left leg with my heel, a nice tear about a third around the leg at my ankle. Of course, between the pants and jacket, there were only my to back pockets that weren't trying to lose my keys. The vest is, though, in primo shape. Never better! I think I will never throw these articles away, as I love them with nearly all my soul. At least as much as is dedicated towards clothing. They shall be sewn, and I will be happy.

I wanted to purchase some non-trial flavours of contacts, as all I've had are trial pairs for the last 4 months, but they are too expensive. Curse them. If I didn't place some weird value on my fucked up vision (And have a totally rational fear of RAZORS IN MY EYE) I would shoot lasers in my eyes and be done with this grinding of lenses forever. Besides, if I hear one more time about my cornea inevitably being *rubbed off* by old contact lenses, I'll develop some sort of paranoia syndrome.

I congratulate myself on waking up before 2 - and better, noon and BETTER ... 9:30 am!! Totally incredible. Perhaps soon I will defeat my self diagnosed insomnia (that is, web addiction) which keeps me up till little birds and forest creatures were welling outside my window welcoming boulder morning into my windows with chirping and noises that are just plain infuriating when trying to sleep. You know that 'till' is actually the older word? Until is derived from it, rather than Until spawning a shortening. So doing the apostrophe thing ( 'til ) is redundant back formation. Just so you.. you know.. know. God I feel vapid today. Ah, of cafes and coffeeshops, if you're anywhere nearby and you haven't, go to Pennylane a few times before they close forever - a lot of cool things are still going on there (Like tonight theres these two weird traveling poets from Portland, whom I saw last night at the merc.. they aren't polished, some of its bad, but man they are sincere and full of life)

Yesterday the slam was fantastico. Inspiring, lovely, moving, and occasionally embarrassing, just like I like it. There's a tall girl there which is really fun but, as is I think (no real basis for this generalization) typical of shy-ish preoccupied boys like me, her manner (That is, a stranger being attentive to me for any length of time) makes me wonder if she's flirting with me. I would greatly, greatly prefer that I not think like that, because if she was I would much rather be oblivious than presumptuous if she wasn't. So instead of course I shall do my best to feign obliviousness, and perhaps it will be forgotten and I'll make a new friend! Isn't that just kindergarten? Awww.

I really *want* to ramble more, which is unusual, but I should get to work. I do think its worth mentioning that Costa Rica is in a mere 22 days (!!?) and I still don't feel like I'm going anywhere. I am moving into a trailer with my brother as we speak, and this place is just past sweet, the old couple that lived there made it possibly and enchanted adorable trailer of adorableness. They like, left us sage bundles and a picture of this owl they saw outside their trailer (neat!) and like, a whole slew of plastic and paper dishes! So weird, but again - sweet. The place comes with like, the best kept herb and flower garden ever, with everything from 3 kinds of mint and lemonbalm to comfrey, valerian root, and sweet woodruff! We also have prize miniature roses, daffodils, narcissi, and like other flowers that are pretty, and 3 kinds of stinging nettles (Apparently way healthy? My bros lj has a better list of the herbs and stuff). Best of all, there is this practically tame rabbit which old Mary Rose had even planted like, lettuce for and stuff, and there is almost *no* creepy old people vibe, just niceness and a very well maintained and well-modified trailer (They made very good use of the space, the living room is ginormous.. there, I said it. Can we stop using that word yet? ... ok i admit I like it, but its against my better instincts.)

Anyway. Workworkwork... and I guess because I hate ending lj entries I'll just put a quote of the day here because I really liked this one. bye!

How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.

If you haven't seen starwars yet, I suppose this qualifies as a spoiler.

Oh, and behind this LJ cut ) is me at trident a few months ago. (Before morgan left and came back from her awesome sea adventures).

Ah, some news! I am moving out of my house in a week (woo moving again :P) and theres a VNV show that week I wanna see, they impressed me SO MUCH the first time, and then I get to go to Costa Rica for the rest of the summer! (As long as I can convince the passport office I'm not a german terrorist before then). I'm excited. Not as excited as I think I should be, but I'm sure once I actually am going and being there it will be beautiful and new, and although I will be on an organic farm much of the time I think perhaps the last few weeks (Its 6 weeks) I will leave the farm and backpack or something. I will have company and that would be amazing.

Geek time, maybe to balance out a little my disconnected gross ramble from yesterday.
If you don't particularly care about video games, you might not care that Sony, MS and Nintendo are strutting their new systems at E3 right now; all of them have wireless controllers and Wi-Fi built in. I'm kinda excited I suppose, except that they all will be absurdly expensive.
Though I read this sort of junk habitually, I'm sort of mutewhich I can't really do here, but perhaps shouting and jumpind about the whole thing - way less interested than I used to be (I play a lot less games than I used to), then I read this on nintendo's website, about their new 'revolution' console:
The secret weapon: The console also will have downloadable access
to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64,
the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo
Entertainment System (NES).

!! That's *AWESOME*. And its the size of "about 3 DVD cases", which is nice for someone who likes to travel with their junk. Like, say, me.
So, I'm very excited. :D Generations and generations of mario games at my fingertips! Muahaha! Now if they get to release *all* the old games, even from third partie dealers, then I'll buy one for sure (All my old FFs? droool...)

Back to me and my mental health, I think I'll try to paint my walls to output all the crap. Since I can't paint my walls, I'll just try to cover them in paper which I've drawn on. In valencia I used to scream at paper and stuff, which I can't really do here, but maybe shouting and jumping isn't as necessary as I think :)

Edit**
Oh, and if you are around Boulder thursday(tomorrow), Bright Channel is at the Fox. They are neat experimental rock, the guitar guy at Robbs music (He's cool promise) is the guitarist, and the manager I think it is is the Bassist (She's also cool, promise). Best of all, its a measly 5 bucks. :D You should go, even if you don't really like it! For five bucks you can walk out and not feel bad. Sample them Here.

Mememememememe i want cookies!! (i mean.. a meme) [Apr. 20th, 2005|07:45 pm]
[heartnoises | working]
[othernoises |The Killers - HF - Everything Will Be Alright]

I don't really use this thing as any more than a platform for my rampant voyeurism, but since [info]siryumyum has obliged me by name, here is a terrible horrible chain meme. Cackle.

Music Meme. As I understand it, I'm supposed to be somewhat verbose.
01) Total Volume of Music on My computer:
On local HD, excluding my comedy/audiobook/nonmusic files:
8590 Files at 33.3 GB

02) The Last CD I bought was:
Picaresque by the Decemberists about 3 weeks ago, at their show!. (I bought their tshirt at that show too, its greeeen. oooo.)

03) Song Playing Right Now:
The Killers - HF - Everything Will Be Alright
(I am not too familiar with the Killers, I'm testing the waters. No sharks, yet... i like them a lot.. Killers, not Sharks... right.)

04)Five+ Songs I listen to a lot or mean a lot:
I'm doing 13. Seems like a fine number. Numbered to keep track, NOT as an indicator of importance!!
Sort of like nate but not quite, I'm putting a * next to songs I've actually been listening to lately (Songs that mean something aren't usually what I listen to.. Right now theres a bunch of 'Minus the Bear' and 'Scissor Sisters' on my playlist, notsomuch the radiohead/zeppelin/everclear)

1.Leonard Cohen - Suzanne
I think of roadtripping through a snow-dusted southwest Utah with dave to California with this song. We listened to this whole album heaps then. Tom Waits' "The Early Years" especially applies, also.

2.Modest Mouse - The Ocean Breathes Salty*
This song has been playing in my room a lot lately, I love the cadence and lyrics a lot. lot. Aural heroin. mmm.

3.Led Zeppelin - Babe I'm Gonna Leave You
Although Zeppelin has faded to the background since my love affair with them llate 03, they still rock. They remind me of when I was at my most loud and obnoxious (and lovable!). Led Zeppelin, you are solid *rock*. And, it reminds me of a girl.

4.Radiohead - Exit Music(For a Film)
I especially love the Strung Out on Ok Computer cover of the whole album. Again, I could choose a lot of songs, but this one has a name I particularly like. I also want to say Green Plastic Trees, since thats the first radiohead that I got stuck in my head for an ungodly amount of time.

5.The Cure - Catch*
The Cure is umm meaningful and stuff. This song gets headliner because 'Just Like Heaven' would be too easy. (I almost put up 'If Only Tonight We Could Sleep', because that song is great), Oh oh and also listen to Lovecats.

6.United Deejays - Too Much Rain Over Paradise
Not a favorite, but it reminds me IMMEDIATELY of when ravers lived in my house.

7.Iron and Wine - Promising Light*
Lovely song. Makes me think of someone. (Oooh vague and mysteeeerious)

8.The Eels - Susan's House
This whole album is the first one I got into because of Dave.

9.Murder by Death - The Desert is on Fire*
Reminds me of Michelle! Because she liked this band so rabidly that I found myself subconsciously acquiring boatloads of their music. (the song is.. so good. get now.)

10.The Long Winters - Cinnamon
This song reminds me of Charlotte! Everything else by this band is kinda lame, but this song is cool.

11.Sublime - Chica mi Tipo
A Dave House classic, though it transcends any one place or time. Spanish lyrics just rock. Also here because Kira way likes them ;)

12.Manu Chao - King of the Bongo
Reminds me of living in Valencia, along with Cab Calloway's "King of the Jungle".

13.Everclear - Pale Green Stars
I love it when girls have glow in the dark stickers on their ceiling, its great.

14.Decemberists - Billy Liar - I Was Meant for the Stage*
ok, 15 not thirteen. But I have to mention these because I wanted so bad to hear them at the last show but they didn't play either of them! :'(

Bands that are very, very hard not to just write into the list with a song: Parliament Funkadelic(FLASHLIGHT!!?), Pixies, Ramones, Os Mutantes, White Stripes(Apple Blossom!! Ooh!), Beatles, Calexico, Tom Petty(Zombie Zoo!!!), VNV Nation, Mike Ness, Belle and Sebastian, Bruce Springsteen(Nebraska!!), Broken Social Scene(Only 'Anthem for a 17 year old girl', really) , Dylan(Buckets of Moonlight!), Flaming Lips, Desperacidos, Flogging Molly, Postal Service, Violent Femmes(Specific Songs like Add it Up), Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins Kweller Calexico Aqueduct Camera Obscura Parker and Lily okokok you get the point, i'm indecisive, theres a bunch of music blah.

5)Which 5 people are you passing this baton to & why?
[info]flax Because 1)you DJ and 2)I think you'll actually do it :)
[info]sea_dweller Because you've never shown me a band that I didn't like
[info]inushnu Because I nearly always like what your 'current music' thing says
[info]kippege Because well, you kick ass, and I like reading what you write
[info]gremlinpuppy Because I say so, and because your musical taste comes across as very honest. It always impresses me.

ok thats that, back into virtual seclusion. (and aramaic! Christ why couldn't they have picked an alphabet and stuck with it?!)

Alright, voting time. I would like input on this one, since I am having a serious trouble choosing which of these languages to study for my linguistics course.

Unfortunately I don't get to learn whichever language I choose for credit,(although I'm really bad at learning languages so this is really a good thing), but what I do have to do is buy a grammar book for it, which apparantly differs from a textbook considerably (it catalogs rather than teaches a language), and then fill out this big workbook on it throughout the semester.

I have already culled this list considerably, and whichever language I choose (with a couple exceptions.. like basque) I hope to learn someday to speak well. Its a cool assignment, but I'm already late choosing and 'just pick' doesn't work for me, since Im interested in them all (for differing reasons).

Anyway, pick!!

When I saw the picture, I was happy because I thought i should have resolved to get a puppy.

Your New Years Resolution Should Be: Wake up before noon

You've been accused of sleeping your life away
And it's a little bit true - you are really into your pillow
In fact, it may be years since you've seen a sunrise at the *start* of your day
Sleep a little less. Some sunshine would do you good.

have any of you seen the bbc show 'The Office'? Its so painful... its... awesome

*edit* here is where I donated: http://www.directrelief.org/
I hope you guys that can afford to do, too. Colin ([info]kippege) has a copy of a letter from one of our friends (Dave Huff) where he did some looking around for good charities for tsunami relief, which is good for people like me who are bad at knowing where to donate.

I really don't like doll art very much about 99% of the time.

If you're surprised to see my artwork on the insert of this album, me too! They didn't talk to me about this at *all*. Should I be upset? Yup. I should. And am.

I emailed them, and if they respond nicely then I'll let it slide, although i'm asking for compensation for this one. It hurts my feelings that they wouldn't even talk to me. They stole that Straight off of my DeviantArt, they didn't even leave a bleeding comment.

In the end though, its nice to see my pictures getting used and liked. If the cover wasn't so yucky I would be a lot happier, but then FULC isn't really looking at me for audience. Just free art, apparantly.

They've been ok in the past, I hope I can keep working with them after this.

ANGER gaGArarawrg

I'm just blown away by how rude this is. Exploitive, too. I wonder, if I had never seen this, if they would have ever contacted me? :( :( :( They never even sent me the checks from tshirts they said they were gonna make. The tshirts aren't on the website, so I guess they never made them.

i feel icky.

[othernoises |The December Sound - Send Us Love]

It's an emergency. A lot of people have finished already, and I have heard of a few doing the bulk in the last week, or even the last few days, but I am having some serious focus issues. I am at a downright embarrasing word count of 4600 or so. I don't have a job or anything, which has fulfilled its promise of being more of a burden of procrastination and general idiocy than a blessing of infinite time.

I have gained the aid of my roommates, no more tv until its over. Which means no more movies. Hopefully they won't be too lazy to withhold mercy on my lame non writing ass. I'm also going to unplug the internet in about 5 minutes and, hopefully with their aid if i break, won't let me back on until i'm to ten thousand at least. I hope to hit twenty thousand by tuesday.

The first step to finishing my novel has thankfully already been completed, and I raised to courage to ruin my sappy plot with a space faring, evil-robot army wielding villian. She might even wear silver, sleeved gloves. I'm not sure yet.

If I don't finish this novel, I'm going to rent a hotel room, use as much hot water as I want, and then drown myself. Or at least eat a lot of sweets. that's been a problem lately. Curse you, little debbie and your swiss cake rolls! i hate you!!

and i have to update my comic tomorrow. crap.

I'm vaguely proud to present Clearly Plagiarised, my no-goodnik debauch of comicry. The design is a bit lacking(ugly) in places, I apologize. It, like much the rest of the internet, is and will be under eternal renovation.

I don't have a computer, so my father's LCD flatpanel is all i have - the colors look fine to me, but there is a non-zero chance that the white background makes the comic *very hard* to see because the grays may be too dark. If this is the case please tell me so i can make the background some grayvalue to balance it. (or lighten the comic.. whatever)

*edit* I changed the link above to the first one, i figure that would be smart (even though there are only two pages.) In the unlikely event of someone wanting to bookmark it, and even more unlikely event that someone who was wouldn't figure this out (or if they're lazy), this is the parent page: http://melek.keenspace.com */edit*

Note: This entry was specifically designed to be long, lame, and boring. Do not click on any of those lj-cuts if you expect otherwise.

Since I don't smoke pot... April 20th is Senior Ditch Day!! WWAAUUGGHH!!
My senior alter ego and I plan on celebrating with movies and fresh fruit, and maybe some badass music. Movie suggestions for instilling that satisfying, warm fuzzy feeling of utter laziness? Please refrain from suggesting Ferris Bueller's day off, as it's already been suggested and nixed. Talking about that movie is great, and I find watching it doesn't match up to that experience. :)

*warm yellow light*

now is where I add to my journal entry both googlisms and inane commentary. )

A Meandering Journalentry [Apr. 17th, 2004|07:17 am]
[heartnoises |morning]
[othernoises |Little Joe Gould - You Are the Last Dragon]

I just noticed I have a new draftydesklamp thingie my mom bought me that she just left on my desk. I feel bad for not noticing it before kinda, but that rocks.

Morning was that worst ('that worst'?). I did that great thing where you are awake enough to turn off your alarm, maybe even set it again, but certainly not awake enough to consider getting up; no no getting up is out of the question. I woke up right about when the lunch hour for my art class ends, and uh.. went to art. I like that class too much to let my ick interfere completely. The ick and I, you see, are at war. The ick sends its gooey webs to my room and traps me in bed for hours at a time. I didn't realize how long I had been completely consumed by the ick earlier in life, but now I know - I was a complete and utter zombie.

When you are a complete zombie, you don't *know* it. You are used to it. A day where you do absolutely nothing but maybe play a video game that you've played a hundred times before, occasionally zone out, and eat whatever you are fed by your parents and friends seems not only normal, but incredibly exhausting. After the first year or so of complete ick rule, you completely forget you were sad at all, you just slip into ick survival mode(this is when you become a zombie).

I think the worst part of being a zombie is the naivety. A true ickzombie is like a turnip. Not interesting, inoffensive, and a vegetable.

Vegetables don't know they are vegetables, this is an important thing to know about zombies.

I had this wierd vision today of this valley; it looks barren, and there are all of these strange nailed together, climbing staircases - stacked and tacked together boxes, books, broken machinery, junkyard/attic fare pulled up from the ground into these twisting evil-swamp-tree-like structures ending in little summits or balconies. Each wierd structure occasionally pokes up from the ground like a barb, thin and spindly and far-between. One lame little person wanders on top of their respective junktowers. If I had my art, (I am missing my art in the same way that Charlotte once claimed her sex was missing), I would draw this.

I tried renting Kill Bill volume 1, which was pretty shortsighted since there were airplanes in the sky proclaiming that it was completely rented out in 49 states. I never thought I would want to visit wisconsin for any reason other than the worlds largest dismantled badger. Huh.
